Support Our Very Important Cause...
WHY KIDS MENTAL HEALTH? Well, the evidence speaks for itself. More than half of all mental-health problems among adults started in childhood and one in 10 children experiences a mental health difficulty by the age of 11. Yet, one recent survey found that over 50% of primary school teachers don’t feel confident to support issues of wellbeing and mental health including recognising signs of depression and anxiety. Mental health and wellbeing provision in schools is proven to help reduce stigma around mental health, build resilience among children and their families, and improve the chances of catching potential issues before they escalate. Schools are in a unique position to shape and influence the mental health and wellbeing of their pupils and to help prepare them for the opportunities and challenges ahead. Training and resources will support and assist teaching in essential life skills that promote children’s ability to cope, resolve conflict, and manage their thoughts, feelings, behaviour and their friendships. Our aim is for Freds to be a school where children, staff and parents see mental health and wellbeing as ‘everybody’s business’.
